Online Business Travel Tips: Lessons From The Road

July 31st, 2007

Arizona MountainsI just returned from a great 9 day vacation with my daughter, driving from Arizona to the midwest and back. Even though I’ve made the drive many times in the past, the views were still captivating and we both had experiences to remember.

Thanks to my online businesses, I’m normally able to pick up and get away at most any time. It’s one of the things I’m most grateful for… the ability to help others, spend time with my family, work from home and on my own schedule. Truly a blessing!

I also learned a few things that were very helpful over the past few weeks and may be helpful for you as well.

First, the phone.

One of my businesses require that I stay in touch by phone occasionally. I prefer not to have a bunch of phone numbers to confuse the issue when I’m out, so after a little research I found a remarkable service. It’s called GrandCentral and basically it’s a central phone management system that can help you stay in touch (or not if you prefer). You can select a number in your areacode and then give out that number as your main contact number. Add your home, office, cell phone or any other phone into the system and advise the system when and where to ‘look’ for you when you get a call. That part is available with many other services, but here is what sets GrandCentral apart. You can manage all your messages online, categorize them, take notes on each call, email the messages, email the caller, post the messages online or download them to your computer. You can manage your contacts, add their email address, mailing address, notes, etc. You can also tag any caller to be automatically sent to a SPAM folder, automatically play a ‘number not in service’ message, filter calls and more. The system asks your caller to record their name the first time they call to announce the call to you and you can then choose to take the call, send it to voicemail or listen in on the voicemail… and you can break into the call as they’re leaving the voicemail at any time. You can also call back anyone directly from the web site, just click call and it asks what phone number you’d like to call from and in a few seconds your phone is ringing. There is also a mobile version so if you have a web browser on your phone, you can do most everything without your computer. And since the service is still in Beta, it’s free. Believe me, this is one service that once you try you won’t mind paying for. Google has recently bought the company so you know it will be around for a while.

Second, internet access.

While traveling I found no lack of wireless internet hot spots or networks at hotels, travel centers, coffee shops, cafes… there are plenty available. As long as you have a wireless network card on your laptop, you’re good to go. But one issue bothered me - security. You don’t want others snooping on your computer so I found a free service called AnchorFree Hot Spot Shield that assigns a VPN (virtual private network) to your computer that you connect through and keeps your online session secure. It works great, just start it up after connecting to a wireless hot spot and you’re in good shape.

Third, email.

When travelling and using hot spots and wireless networks, your regular email will often not work properly. You can usually download it ok, but not send. This is because you normally use your ISP’s outgoing (SMTP) mail server and when you are on another network, it often doesn’t allow you to connect. One way around this is to change your outgoing mail server to the one assigned to your domain (ie, mail.yourdomain.com), this often works. Another alternative is to use the web mail version of your email system. If you don’t have webmail available, try gmail.com. You can setup ‘from’ addresses that match your domain’s and send email from your gmail.com account directly.

Fourth, handy software.

When at home or traveling, I find myself taking notes often. Copying links, phone numbers, addresses, web sites, maps… just about anything. I started looking for an application that can handle all that and found a great note package that does it all. Copy snippets of a web site, drag a link, copy an image, take notes, just about anything including to-do lists. You can search through all your note, categorize them, print them, add web links, go the site you got the snippet and more. It’s called Evernote and they have 2 versions. The standard version is all you need and it’s free. Check it out, I think you’ll like it.

Trust you’re enjoying your summer… school has started here in Arizona, but the warm weather is still here :)

To Your best success!

How To Get a Top 10 Search Engine Position?

July 17th, 2007

It’s the goal of any online marketer; getting a top search engine ranking for their website.

Right?

You bet, getting a top position at Google or other major search engines can mean additional traffic and increased profits.

So what’s the trick?

There are many ways to get a top listing in Google, and most all have to do with two things: content and links.

Content you can take care of (for example, blogs are a great search engine positioning tool), but links have always been an art form. You see, you really want a certain type of link. For example, links from your own web sites on the same server don’t help you that much. Links from sites with a higher PR are weighed heavier than those with a lower PR. One way links are weighed higher than reciprocal. The keyword text you use in the hyperlink text that’s linking to you is very important as well.

Normally one way links are harder to get since there is nothing in it for the site putting up the link to you.

But now, Jonathan Ledger has put together a unique 3 way linking system. He’s designed a system where you get quality one way links, no reciprocal links and no interlinking between related sites - a true 3 way link network. And since it’s a network, you get a large number of links as well as giving them to other sites. You get to select your hyperlink text, which is key, and you can add a large number of sites to your network. Each site is reviewed manually so you can feel comfortable sending and receiving links from other sites in the network.

The statistics speak for themselves. Out of 678 sites in the network, 62% have a Google Page Rank, some as high as a 7. And in the last seven days, 393 more sites have moved into the top 10 position on Google for their keywords, and 9 more reached the number 1 position.

As a beta tester, I not only noticed an increase in one of my site’s search engine position, but found that a large number of other sites had experienced excellent results as being part of the network as well. Sites experienced position increases of 1 to as many as 100 (ie, if they were originally ranked 100, they went up to 99 or as high as 1).

It’s hard to get links - and results - like this without being part of a network. Jonathan’s 3 way link system is really well put together and is producing outstanding results. It takes just a few minutes to get setup and then watch the results come in over time as your links grow (Jonathan designed the system to grow the links to and from your site over a specific time period - one that Google likes).

Now that the network is live, I’m continuing to use and highly recommend it… if you’d like a higher search engine position ranking, that is.

To Your best success!

Did You Say Pop Ups In a PDF Ebook?

July 13th, 2007

Adobe AcrobatOK, now I thought it wasn’t possible to have pop-ups in a PDF document or ebook, but I was WRONG!

You see, programmers have been trying to figure this out for years.

But none have figured out just how to do it right, until the other day.

Why is this important?

Just think about this… you can now give away PDF ebooks (the preferred method for most internet users) without asking for their name or email. After they read your PDF, your nice message comes up asking them to sign up for updates to your ebook. You see, they can sign up after they see your report and will want to get the updates (as long as your report is valuable of course!). This is a perfect tool to build or grow your list virally using free PDF reports. You’ll be able to give away many, many more PDF ebooks without asking for their email address up front.

You can setup your pop up to show before or after they read. It’s a simple form you fill out with your message or URL and you’re done… new PDF created. You don’t need to know anything about HTML or anything else, just type in your message and create your new PDF.

Read more about this PDF page pop up tool and find out if it’s right for you.

To Your best success!

Blogging To The Bank: Final Chance

July 11th, 2007

Just received an email from Rob Benwell, creator of Blogging to The Bank 2.0 (and wrote about last week) saying that he’s reached his anticipated sales and will now be raising the price tomorrow to slow down sales and not saturate the market.

Smart move on Rob’s part.

As I wrote about last week, my review of Blogging to The Bank 2.0 is… well, if you’re interested in one of the better strategies of making a living online, I highly recommend you grab a copy.

Not only is this updated guide excellent (even for someone that has been blogging for years like myself) but the bonuses are worth more than the course itself, in my opinion. For example, his powerpoint slide bonus is information that gurus share only after attending their high end coaching programs for $1000’s.

If you’re involved in online marketing in any way, you know how valuable blogging has become to any online business. It’s a great way to build a high search engine presence and build a residual, growing and valuable online business, one that you can even sell or pass on to your children. That’s how valuable a successful blog network can be. Rob has done this already (and proves it) and shows what it takes step-by-step.

Blogging is not a passing fad, it’s here to stay and a valuable asset. But only if you do it right. Most folks are doing it all wrong (if you want to monetize it that is)!

Rob says the price will increase tomorrow, so grab a copy of Blogging To The Bank 2.0 today.

All the best for your success!

Case History Profile: Behind The Scenes of Affiliate Video Brander

July 9th, 2007

(courtesy of IMNEWSWATCH.com)

Affiliate Video Brander, A Behind The Scenes Success Story
by Michael Nicholas

I had the idea for what Affiliate Video Brander is today about 3 years ago or about when Camtasia desktop video software was introduced to the online market.

It all started one day when I received an email which had a link that I clicked taking me to a video to watch online.

I was skeptical at first wondering how an online video could warm anyone up to do a direct buy online as I hadn’t yet experienced it myself.

As the video played, I watched and listened as the product vendor who made the video described the benefits of owning the software being shown.

There were four significant things that transpired from me watching that promotional desktop video:

1) Slam Dunk… I went to buy the product after the video redirected me to the sales page as this video did a superior job of pre-selling me on what I was going to get out of owning this software.

2) I couldn’t stop thinking how effective the video experience was to thrust me into such an accelerated buying mode.

3) I wondered right then and there how I could use that same video to drive targeted people to it so I too could make commissions from showing that video. ~Side Note~ I also knew if I wanted to do this, thousands of others would too. (the idea of video branding was very clear to me )

4) But I soon realized, I could not use that same video as there was no way for it to redirect through MY affiliate link even if I could get permission to use it from the vendor. Thus, I could not brand that video for my own uses as an affiliate marketer.

So, I was left with a couple of options and they were, buy a $300 program and become an expert desktop video maker myself trying to re-create the effectiveness of the video I just saw… Or wait for someone to come out with a video brander as I thought one would be coming out soon. Then I could just sit back, buy it and simply brand the videos the vendors were creating.

That was 3 years ago and I never did see one come out that I could buy… And to be honest, I can’t figure why a video branding tool wasn’t out soon after Camtasia hit but NEVER did I think I would be involved in coming out with Affiliated Video Brander 3 years later… LOL

So, I went out and outsourced 2 different coders to put together and accomplish what I conceived as video branding.

With that said, let me also say this… It’s been said when someone thinks of an idea, there are at least a thousand other people thinking of the same idea in one form or another.

Therefore, it’s all about who takes action on it and who just thinks about it… I’m glad on this one idea I took action on it.

The significant thing about what Affiliate Video Brander does is it allows affiliate marketers a way to use their own affiliate links to brand the product videos vendors make to present their products.

Thus, affiliates don’t have to spend time learning to create videos but just use them to show their targeted audiences while increasing sales using it.

A nice improvement in the kind video pages AVB generates is the added links that also lead to the sales page. So, you not only get automatically redirected at the end of the video (like a Camtasia video) but you also have active links showing at anytime as well as sub headline text that can be used to boost the call-to-action.

Not only that, but you can add meta information into the head of the video page so you can optimize the page to help get picked up by the search engines. The search engines do love video on web pages, so we made sure to add the meta info in AVB.

Why did I wait so long to begin developing AVB?

The simple reason was I was knee deep in setting up shop for my online marketing so to go out and think I was going to also become a software developer and turn the online video community around with my idea was not very realistic to me at the time.

I just thought I’d wait till someone else came out with it and I would have been happy enough at that to buy and use it.

Cut to the end of 2006 and I was promoting a product and one of my list members wrote me this…

> > Help Michael! The Link for the Competition Dominator video
> > does not play.

What was happening is something common that happens when vendors show a video on their webpage is many times it will get over-loaded when too many site visitors are trying to play it.

We’re talking massive traffic was hitting this site and I learned that it’s much better if affiliates can also show the video on their own sites so it would eliminate the main sales page of staggered video playbacks and frustrated visitors.

So, as an affiliate for the product I contacted the vendor, Chris, and mentioned it to him. But of course he was knee deep in trying to get his server back up and running.

However, I knew people really wanted to see this video but they couldn’t and they were losing their patience fast unless I did something for them.

It emailed Chris back and got permission to use the video as it just so happened I was testing videos on my own site at that time.

In fact, as things unfolded, I used what would become my first version of Affiliate Video Brander (the test model) to see if it would save the day. And happy I was because I was able to brand it with my own affiliate link and that was the big test to see if the link would work and sales would convert by showing a video at my site.

Well, to my delight I made $4,890.87 in commissions with a CTR of 12% all from using a branded video.

At that point the Affiliate Video Brander idea was born and now being used quietly in action.

I went on to crank out many more thousands of dollars testing the later versions of Affiliate Video Brander on Day Job Killer and others.

But I didn’t Launch The Product yet… I Launched A JV Partner First…

Enter, Eric Holmlund

I have to say I got real lucky hooking the AVB idea up with Eric Holmlund, Joel Comm’s JV partner on Instant Adsense Templates and The Next Internet Millionaire, etc.

Eric is a top gun internet marketer and I have a high level of respect for his work.

I had been promoting his stuff since 2005 so I wanted to run the AVB idea by him since I promoted for him many times and I knew I could get a solid opinion and viewpoint about AVB as feedback. That’s all I was really looking for at the moment when the email I received back from him which floored me.

In it, Eric told me that he too had been making his own specially made video pages and how they also made him thousands of dollars in commissions AND right then and there we decided to partner on the marketing of AVB.

Soon we were on the phone planning the launch of Affiliate Video Brander.

I took it as a real good omen having Eric as a partner as for one important thing is it made the AVB story so much stronger when we added up the money we had made with video pages branded with affiliate links, we knew others could be doing the same thing too…

And since we had the tool to generate branded video pages… we knew we had a great product and soon carved out our plan to launch it.

The Perfect JV

If there was a perfect JV - this was it.

One thing is agreeing to do a JV but it’s another thing to make it all work.

Working with Eric was a great experience because everything he said he would be doing, he did and he did it extremely well.

It was like a great volleyball match as we both worked on the sales letter down to the final moments and as he was working on his video intro production I did the JV partner email copy then while he set up the OTO I was doing some last minute updates on the product user guides and just like that… it all fell together so well.

The launch of Affiliate Video Brander was a huge success and after a lot of time behind this project we believe it’s one of the most powerful affiliate weapons to come along as we look forward to many affiliates using it successfully.

Blogs: Are You Doing It All Wrong?

July 7th, 2007

If you’re serious about your online business, this is probably one of the most important messages you’ll want to read.

You see, one of the best niche online business strategies I’ve seen is now available (no, not Mike Filsaime’s 7 Figure Code). As with most everything I write about, I’ve gone through Rob Benwell’s updated Blogging guide on building blogs successfully and picked up a ton of tips - even for a 10 year veteran like myself.

But here’s why I’m rushing to get this to you as quickly as I can.

The bonuses Rob is offering are most likely going to be pulled soon and I would be remiss not to let you know about them before they’re gone. You see, in my opinion, the bonuses are worth more than the guide itself. They include several software tools that are essential to successful blogging, but most importantly, the best bonus, his Powerpoint presentation, shows exactly how to layout a profitable blog network (this is stuff gurus only share when you pay thousands for their coaching or seminars!).

I hope these are still available when you grab your copy.

After I went through the guide the first time, I got started right away and created a blog based on his outline. I thought this would be helpful to you as well and when you pick up your copy through my link below, just shoot me over your receipt and early next week I’ll send you the video showing you the step by step process of how easy it is to create a blog… the right (profitable) way. Most everyone is doing it wrong!

I’ll also share with you a new service that makes blogging even easier (if that’s possible!)… get this, schedule your Wordpress posts from all your blogs to show whenever you want… set them up and go on vacation! (all from -one- control panel) Your blogs will grow over time, automatically, just like the search engines like it. And that’s only one of the many features.

And by the way, Rob said he’ll be pulling the whole book offline in a few weeks as well. Not sure when, but he limited the first edition last year and stuck to his promise. I found this to be one of the best values for the investment (peanuts) and one of the simplest ways to build a successful online business that’s professional, residual, grows over time, will be valuable, work on it when you want and you’ll be proud to run.

Check it out now.

All right, I’m off to continue building my blog network… trust you’ll be joining me!

To Your best success!

P.S. Regardless of your level of blogging skills, Rob’s guide covers the right (profitable) way to blog. You can also use the SEO strategies for any other website as well. The steps are white hat, professional and will show you exactly how to build a profitable blog network in a short time.

Have You Declared Your Independence?

July 4th, 2007

Happy 4th of July!

It’s a day to celebrate the blessing of our freedom and independent way of life, especially for those of us in America.

But have you declared your independence from a j.o.b.? Independence from doing what you ‘have’ to do and starting to do what you ‘want’ to do?

I feel blessed that I’ve been working - or should I say - playing online for over 10 years… earning more than a full time living. This past year has been the best ever, and I’m grateful for every day!

If you haven’t declared your independence, and want to, I encourage you to start today.

“The follies which a man regrets the most in his
life are those which he didn’t commit when he had the opportunity.”
Helen Rowland (1876 - 1950)

Wherever you are, I encourage you to download Willie Crawford’s new report. Willie shows you exactly how to quickly pick up $1k - $2k in just a few days, really fast money.

You see, I’ve noticed in working with others online that if you can see and experience how easy it can be to pickup a few thousand in a few days, you’ll be encouraged to keep doing it.

Not only that, you’ll be encouraged to try new things and learn from your experiences and build on your successes.

The report is only $5, although worth much more than that… perhaps your new independence. What’s that worth?

To Your best success!
