One of the things that I’ve reinforced is that even though there are many ways to earn online, having your own product is the most important one. Yes, you can diversify in other areas (more on that soon) but the foundation of all online business ought to include having your own products. It’s ESSENTIAL – it’s that important in my opinion. I mean, even top affiliate marketers are selling their own products showing you how to become successful affiliate marketers, right? I’ve always believed, watch what they DO, not what they say.

The ability to own a product, setup an affiliate program and create a buyers list are all huge in creating long term success online.

You could make software, create a report, interview an expert, record an interview, compile research, have a script made, make a bot, create a facebook app… there are hundreds of ways you can create your own product.

But that doesn’t mean you have to create one from scratch. In fact, most don’t have time for that (even though it doesn’t take that long) or the expertise (often you don’t need any) so I recommend PLR.

Unfortunately today there is so much junk out there, it’s often hard to know where to get good PLR and a fair price.

Let me share what I’ve been working on the last 10 days.

After reading Dennis Becker’s guide (several times btw) that I told you about last week, I’ve been inspired to accomplish the following:

• created a new membership site launching next week
• created a new auto updating affiliate site (Update: 4 days after setting it up – took about 1 hour – it is now #1 on Google for the search keywords I selected and getting almost 100 visits a day)
• added 27 new projects to my master project list
• in process of completing 4 products, all but 1 in non-IM niches I work in
• tweaked 2 projects and doubled revenue on 1 and increased 67% on the other (initial results, most likely will get better over time)
• now regularly adding new projects ideas to my master project list (the more the better)
• overall increased my average daily income by 24% for just the work I did over the last 10 days

And frankly this was easy and exciting. I plan to continue at a similar pace throughout the year. You can too.

One of the vital lessons I’ve applied from Dennis’ guide is speed.

You have the take action quickly. The faster you move, the faster you either succeed or fail. If you fail, no worries, you either tweak and try again or move on. First, most of us don’t have the skills to create professional software, let alone unprofessional software! If you do, congratulations… it’s a nice (and profitable) skill to have.

And the other option, outsourcing, is riddled with challenges, the first being a budget. Today, most software projects are increasing in cost. It used to be where you could get an application designed for a hundred or two. Now, programmers have realized how much there is to be made in creating software and many have increased their prices. So if you don’t have more than a few hundred to start and maybe much more for updates and changes, then outsourcing really isn’t an option.

Next is the communication and project management. You have to have a very clear picture of what you want and often getting that across to a programmer, especially one that isn’t based in the US, can be challenging. That along with communicating over tweaks until it’s completed can be a long and frustrating process.

And finally the legal issues. If you use a programmer from outside the US, you may run into issues regarding ownership, code reuse and potentially many other issues. Our legal system doesn’t extend overseas and enforcement is challenging.

Bottom line? Potentially many headaches.

It’s not always like this, but having a project under your own control is often the fastest, easiest and most cost effective way to create the software you need.

So how do you do it?

Use software tools to create applications yourself.

But not just any software will do that. Sure, there are tools that can create software, but they normally have a steep learning curve as well as a steep price tag.

A new application is coming available in early June that will remove all obstacles to creating professional software, software that can do just about anything, without requiring technical expertise. In fact, the developer has a saying:

I recently ran across a tool that will take care of the entire process for you – automate your CD and DVD fulfillment, at about $1.60 for each CD/DVD as of this writing. I know, I was surprised myself as well.

You see, it’s a script that integrates your order page with a web site service that fulfills your orders. Basically, this script will:

• create an order page for you with your CD/DVD products
• collects your client order and shipping information
• collects the payment through PayPal to your account
• sends your client a receipt
• sends you an order notice
• sends the order to the fulfillment service to burn, package and ship your client order, normally within 24 hours

and all this is done automatically. No intervention necessary. Just link to your generated order page and you’re set.

It automatically interfaces using XML with the fulfillment center at Kunaki.com. You can use Kunaki manually, but that would mean entering each order by hand, processing them one by one. And if you decided to list your product at their marketplace (among everyone elses), you would have to wait to receive your monthly payment from them and you can only sell one CD or DVD on a page making it difficult for your clients if you offer more than one or bundles.

The script can sell individual products, or multiple products from the same page, your choice. Your client pays the shipping and handling and gets your products faster, which will normally result in happier clients.

And if you don’t have your own information product on CD or DVD, no worries, get started now. Having their own product is one of the things most successful online marketers have in common. Check out my recent post about how you could have your own product in six weeks or less working just 30 minutes a day (much faster if you have more time).

First, you can trade your time for money. If you’re working by the hour or on salary, then you are trading your time for a paycheck. This is how most folks make money, by working for others by the hour. Although this seems like a dependable and ‘secure’ income, it puts a cap on how much you can earn. There are only so many hours in a day you can work. And the income is never really secure, your employer can decide at any time to let you go.

Second, you can trade products or information for money. This usually involves buying rights to a product or creating your own information product. This method gives you unlimited income potential, you can create something once and continue to get paid, possibly for a lifetime (at least the lifetime of the product).

If you look at most of the top earning marketers online, what do they have in common? Most, if not all, have at least one or more products of their own.

If you don’t have a product you can sell, or don’t know how to get started, Marlon Sanders has introduced a resource that walks you through creating an information product, step by step, called Info-Product Dashboard.

Many times when you mention creating a product it sounds like a huge project and we often feel overwhelmed. Where do I start? What to do next? How do I do that?
