Did You Say Pop Ups In a PDF Ebook?

July 13th, 2007

Adobe AcrobatOK, now I thought it wasn’t possible to have pop-ups in a PDF document or ebook, but I was WRONG!

You see, programmers have been trying to figure this out for years.

But none have figured out just how to do it right, until the other day.

Why is this important?

Just think about this… you can now give away PDF ebooks (the preferred method for most internet users) without asking for their name or email. After they read your PDF, your nice message comes up asking them to sign up for updates to your ebook. You see, they can sign up after they see your report and will want to get the updates (as long as your report is valuable of course!). This is a perfect tool to build or grow your list virally using free PDF reports. You’ll be able to give away many, many more PDF ebooks without asking for their email address up front.

You can setup your pop up to show before or after they read. It’s a simple form you fill out with your message or URL and you’re done… new PDF created. You don’t need to know anything about HTML or anything else, just type in your message and create your new PDF.

Read more about this PDF page pop up tool and find out if it’s right for you.

To Your best success!

Mark

Great. Now we have another way to annoy people. AFTER they’ve downloaded an e-book…hmmm. It’s just my opinion of course, but if I got a pop-up as I’m reading an e-book I would be pissed. The fact is almost ALL people hate pop-ups except perhaps those who think that if they were to use one it might help their online marketing.

It may be clever to engage a pop-up in a PDF file, but the pop-up concept is very 1999 and has been proven to be extremely unpopular.

In my mind it’s a non-starter…although if you manage to prove me wrong, I’ll be glad to see any actual user feedback on this product. Because hey, you never know…

Tim, thanks for your comment. Of course, if used or abused pop ups are annoying. BUT, if used properly, like when exiting a free report to ask if they wanted to get updates, I think it’s an excellent way to use this. Fact is, pop-ups work, no matter if we both think they’re annoying. It’s the ABUSE of them that makes them annoying, not the fact they work. I’ve been using them for over 10 years and in split testing there is no comparison, hands down pop ups work and gather triple or more the response. Thanks for your input and all the best! Mark
