You can build a squeeze page, offer a free report, free video, great quality information or something similar. And that would work. But it does require the user to give up their information first on a web page, then download their gift. And again, that works.

But in my experience, putting a twist on this works much, much better.

What’s the twist?

Give away software!

But not just any software. Software that asks the user to register the application in order to use it. This is normal for software so it doesn’t feel any different than registering any other software and the opt-in rate is usually much higher since the user actually wants to use the software.

But where do you get the software to give away? You don’t have software development skills? Most of us don’t, but I’ve found two ways you can create unique, custom software applications that you can give away, sell or use for your own business without any programming talents needed.

First Solution

The first is software that will ‘wrap’ just about any content into a software application (.exe file) and ask your user to register to get the registration code to use the software. You can wrap HTML pages, PDF’s, other software programs… just about any content you can think of or create you can wrap and make into a software application. This is brilliant and a one-of-a-kind application that allows you to make software in minutes.

And the registration process is built into the software, just set it up with your autoresponder information once and you can build unlimited software applications that ask your user to register before letting them use it. This effortlessly builds your list since computer users are used to registering software. Just make sure you’re providing high quality information or software to keep your list audience with you.

Second Solution

The next solution is to make software applications using a software platform that is easy to use and creates database style software quickly by following a simple design method. This software actually creates software applications, including the setup and uninstall files and most importantly for list building, has a trial software function. This is how you can build a list by giving away your software applications. Ask users to register to get the activation key to let them continue using the software.

You don’t need programming expertise, just the ability to follow directions and use software. You can make software quickly with the pre-built editors, just add them, customize them and then compile them. As an internet marketer, you may know that building lists is one of the more profitable ways to build your online business. Combine that with affiliate marketing and you have a strong business model.

So what’s the best way to put this into practice?

One of the better models is to create niche specific landing pages (squeeze pages) that entice the visitor to signup for your list and learn the answers that you promote on the landing page.

For example, if you are targeting the wart removal market, you would find a wart removal information product that converts well and then create a landing page that describes the troubles people have with warts, the frustration and then provide them with a solution. Provide them with benefits they can learn by joining your list.

After they confirm their email address, have your autoresponder service send them to the affiliate program link you’re promoting with the Wart Removal solution you promised. Normally, this is the ‘confirmation url’.

Then, follow up with them using email explaining the benefits of the solution you proposed, and your affiliate link where they can get the solution.

Building a list of prospects on a specific topic allows you to market to them on this and related topics for as long as they’re on your list. This gives you a much greater chance to convert sales rather than just sending traffic to an affiliate product directly without capturing their email address.

Some important tips:

First, test to see whether to send them to the affiliate program before or after confirming their address makes a difference on sales and email confirmation conversions. I’ve found that waiting until after confirming their address gets you more serious prospects and more sales in the long run, although you may have fewer subscribers. But test for your market and see what works best.

Next, pick an affiliate product that converts well. If you use Clickbank, check the gravity score. The higher the score means the product is selling and being referred, although you don’t need 500+ scores to find a winner. The scores are more indicative of the competition, but if they are selling, they have a positive gravity score.

Lastly, create a landing page that is persuasive and looks nice. Clean layout with some images relating to the niche you’re promoting seems to increase conversions.

What if you don’t know how to create landing pages?

One solution is to use a template pack already designed with a target market in mind.
